This garlic was developed in the Southern Republic of Georgia. Chesnok Red holds true to the Purple Stripe characteristic of great baking garlics and has won awards for the best tasting and sweetest of these. When used raw, the intense heat quickly dissipates but cooking truly brings out its rich smooth sweetness. It adds a sweet garlic flavor to dishes without the heat. Chesnok Red is a great roasting and sauteing garlic as well. Chesnok Red is an easy garlic to grow, producing large bulbs that are easy to peel. 9-10 thin, pinkish red, cloves form per bulb. This is a good keeper storing for 9-12 months.
